In addition to standard fleet management functions, managers are also looking for solutions that will evolve in parallel with their business – and changing business needs. Managing a huge group of people can be a challenge in any circumstance – and especially for fleet managers. They are in charge not only of employees but also of the entire fleet. Therefore, it is not surprising that mistakes are often made. In fact, in an industry where something could go wrong at any time – there is a huge possibility of problems and mistakes. These are some of the most common.

1. Poor Communication

Good communication among managers and representatives is significant in a work environment. However, it is considerably more huge regarding fleet management. As a fleet manager, you need to make your messages clear and well understood. What is the way you communicate with your employees? Are your messages clear and easy to understand? Keep in mind that having great communication abilities in your work environment – will prompt a more joyful workplace. The fleet managers should also open up to their staff – so the employees can feel they can come to you with any issues.

2. Insufficient Training

Fleet managers must provide adequate training for their staff. This is extremely important, and therefore, training should be conducted to train employees to work. When you get down to business, it’s not something you should learn on the go. However, many companies do not have an organized training and education plan for employees – which very often leads to confusion during the performance of the work itself. Better training means more efficient work, more accurate data entry, and the use of fleet maintenance software. Also, with good training, you will have less flow and change of staff – and lower management costs.

3. Not Adapting To Changes

The role of fleet manager has changed significantly in previous decades – mostly due to technology. Today, using fleet maintenance software has become necessary for successful fleet management. Ambitious fleet managers see this as a new challenge, an opportunity to learn something new, to progress – and to manage the fleet with more success. Those who are less ambitious often resist and don’t want to adapt to new things –  even though new methods of work can improve their business and make their job easier. For some reason, they do not have the will to set aside time for personal progress.

4. Assumption Instead Of Verified Information

Do drivers do their job properly? Are the vehicles used properly? Are all employees familiar with the company’s policies? It’s not just about the trust you have in your employees. You must keep in mind that making the wrong assumptions can cost your company a lot.

5. Escaping Possible Problems

Fleet managers or those responsible for the fleet sometimes have a variety of worries that are the reason for sleepless nights. Some of them will run away from problems in that situation – instead of using fleet maintenance software or checking the activities of the vehicles in their fleet. Why is that so? Usually, because they are afraid of what they might find out. In other words, they don’t want to discover problems that will require them to work harder, to introduce new rules – or they just want to avoid unpleasant conversations with drivers or other members of the staff.
